urpmi lynx

Everything was peachy thus far...
urpmi mplayer
urpmi started about its business (32MB of downloads, gulp!), so
I had lunch, showered, came back and it had done quite well having
grabbed over 20MB in that time. Then the computer froze...the mouse
pointer froze, I couldn't Ctrl-Alt-Bkspce or ANYTHING, except the
f&%king power button. I restarted, got online again, to find that
none of the rpm's already downloaded were remembered by urpmi when
I went to restart...
You know the words I uttered...
You could still consider compiling your own version its not that hard
and does support more movie file types.

Any attempts at compiling anything on my system seem to end
in disaster. At the end of the day linux is touted as becoming
close in user-friendliness to Windows. Thats a little ambivalent
to state, since if you plan on updating your system it can become
a giant can of worms. All I need is to switch the PC on, run my
GUI based software, and load new stuff as required. Thats why LOTS
of people wont touch linux, since Windows by-and-by is a clear
winner in the friendly stakes in that regard. Is it such an issue
to have all dependancies wrapped in one file, to install say a
video editing package? Currently you get a mish-mash of pieces,
pulled together by apps like urpmi, but those apps have a steep
learning curve which is unnecessary and frustrating to me...
