Thermal printers are the ones at the supermarket. They need special thermopaper, which goes black under heat. Old fax machines use the same process. Dunno about linux support.

In general, meths will do as well, esp for wiping computer etc cases. Any glass cleaner would be good too, esp for monitors. What I wouldn't use meths for is any kind of optical equipment, or anything where the muck they put into meths (the blue stuff) matters. For a printer I'd just use meths, especially for cheap print head cartridges. If however you already have a large supply of ispropyl, use that instead for soaking expensive stuff.
