Apparantly paint is not the best way to go for the face plates - rather use spray vinyl

You can get replacement covers for some drives - Lian-Li do a range of
aluminium covers to match their nice (ie expensive) cases.

Also, I see philips monitors have a B suffix on all their TFT screens to
denote black casing, and suprisingly they cost no more than the beige
ones.

It does detract from a nice non-beige case, having a beige drive in
there :)  If you want some old non-functional CD drives to practice on
just yell.
