The newer Dell monitors that work bought are black as well.  I haven't 
tried painting any but I have thought about getting rid of the plastic 
altogether and mounting it in an artistic wooden frame.

No need... I've practiced on two CDROM drives previously (my third 
painted case doesn't have one).
