UMM, Jason, with all due respect etc. etc...

For a machine of that age it's _*really*_ important to have the boot stuff on 
its own small partition at the beginning of the disk to avoid possible 
problems with buggy BIOS code being unable to access the bootable file if 
it's not near the beginning of the disk. I think I'm right in saying that 
your beloved Mandrake, a simply splendid example of French design and 
production btw, does that by default.
