From the Installation instructions.......
> large quantities of files in a single directory.ext3 [snip] is not an ideal choice for [snip] situations where you will be handling [snip]
So that's why my directory with almost 200,000 small files has sucky performance. To tar/untar the files takes around half an hour on a decent machine, and the tar.bz2 file is only 10 MB.
Should've used ReiserFS.
Thesis is handed in now, so too late anyway.
