Try a geometry parameter appname -geometry 320x200+100+100 -display :0 should dump it in the upper left corner of your :0 display.
The apps (part of the Really Slick Screensavers package), some of which are included in kdeartwork package with KDE 3.1.0, don't accept those options. You can run them as '<appname> --root' to force them to take the entire X display, but I cannot make them run in a visible window on my KDE desktop. They used to just a few weeks ago which is why I'm puzzled. I've looked at the things I've installed/done since then, but nothing seems to have changed my XFree/nVidia/OpenGL/KDE settings...
