We are supposed to be doing a dry run gentoo/distcc run through tonight. May I suggest we try installing onto two machines, using two other machines as "volunteer" servers[1], and having a portage/distfiles server too.
I will be bringing my machine as portage/distfiles server, and we need two volunteer machine, and two to install on. So, two volunteer machines should be fairly grunty and be able to boot off a cd, and have a linux compatible nic (standard kernel, not something we have to download). "We will not touch your hard drive" (TM), they may even run windows in another life. correction R Fisher is bringing a laptop as a volunteer, so one more needed. two machines to install onto. These may be barebones with a spare partition, or may be a machine with a partial gentoo install, which needs some packages updating/adding. They need not be grunty, but all we are after is proof of concept. you will need to bring the whole kaboodle, monitor, keyboard, power boxes, extension cords, net cable etc. Please get back to me asap. [1] in the distcc world the grunty machines which help others with compilation are the "volunteers". Gotta get with the jargon :-) -- Nick Rout <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>
