Quite true, I still consider myself a newb, but interested enough to pursue these sort 
of things by googling, reading and following this list.  I just hope others like me 
who are trying to find answers aren't put off too easily.

Agree'd but I was generalising and newbs generally have trouble getting 
Winmodems working with Linux, especially since they generally don't even 
know what a Winmodem is!
