1.  I don't use Solaris on a regular basis.  Don't assume I do.
2.  My example was not generated using a version of date supplied with
    Solaris.
3.  If you want to get really pedantic about this:  if this is a Linux
    mailing list, we should be discussing Linux, the kernel, only.
4.  Not every user of Linux (the kernel) uses all-GNU tools as part of
    their distribution.  Observing the differences between implementations
    of particular tools across distributions, and operating systems, is a
    fairly healthy thing to do.  Assuming that every UNIX (or derivative)
    user in the world uses bash for their shell, and GNU tools where ever
    possible indicates that one is a user who emits very few cluons.  All
    the world is not GNU.
