Is there a way to cause a kind of a hard reset of the IDE bus? Or at least of some IDE drive? I just had a CD which the drive didn't want to read properly (sometimes this happens, dunno why, next time I try it always works), and it caused some funny lockups. First the CPU load went high for half a minute, and accessing hda blocked. The cd drive is hdb. Then everything fixed itself, except for hdb, and the drive-busy LED at the front of the case. The system was fine - except for hdb. Ejecting the CD from the drive didn't work, and there was nothing to unmount. The emergency ejection hole is blocked when power is on, by the looks of it. In the end I had to reboot. No problems with shutdown.
