I had this exact problem too. In the end I used the kernel from RH7.3
(which is still compatible with RH9). I realise this is not ideal but owing to the fact that either insmod or gcc steadfastly told me filthy lies about what version they were or were compiled on.

The RH9 kernel reported having been compiled on gcc v3
And I recompiled the sm200dtp driver on a gcc that claimed to be v3

So in the end after spending X days trying to find out what was going on I just reinstalled my 7.3 kernel and ran all of the RH9 stuff on top.

If you work it out I'd love to hear how you licked it :-/

(I suspect RH of compiler/kernel bug insertion)

Regards, Zane

Hi,
I've been interested in the postings about gcc versions and modems . Having moved from Redhat 7.3 to 9, mainly because my HP5550 printer now works more or less properly, I now find that I cannot load the sm200d_lnx.o module because the original Telemann one was compiled by Gcc2 while RH9 has Gcc3.

Are you sure it is not because you haven't recompiled the module for the new kernel?

Cheers,
Carl.
