Gcc2 and Gcc3 and sm200d_lnx.o

Hi,
I've been interested in the postings about gcc versions and modems . Having 
moved from Redhat 7.3 to 9, mainly because my HP5550 printer now works more 
or less properly, I now find that I cannot load the sm200d_lnx.o module 
because the original Telemann one was compiled by Gcc2 while RH9 has Gcc3. 
Can anybody please tell me how to get over this?
