Its really weird when I try running the installation under Mandrake.
I get to the point of manually selecting packages, and all the stuff
I want is not listed for selection...

With Debian all the packages are listed using dselect, but when I try
to select one it cannot select all the dependencies as well...

I guess its (lack of) memory related, so I will upgrade to 128MB when I
get some money together...

Could be - can you do a
        rpm -i filename.rpm
or a
        apt-get install packagename
from the command line?

With rpm? - only if the dependencies are installed, which is normal of course, but I might have to install them 1 at a time manually if they weren't cos urpmi and rpmdrake wont have many of them listed...

With urpmi? - only if the dependencies are listed as well as the selected rpm...if urpmi can find the rpm I want to install that doesn't
mean it can find the dependencies as well....if they're missing the
install will not complete...I can ignore dependency issues of course,
but then the app more than likely wont run...

With apt-get? - haven't managed to get Debian running that far, since
quite a few important system stuff will not install (only have console
but many 'standard' system commands missing too :-( )

Kind regards,

Chris Wilkinson, Christchurch.
