For reasons I don't currently understand the binary install instruction:-
USE="bibdist" emerge -k kde
for example, builds the kde kit instead of copying it from the binary *.tbz 
file in /usr/portage/packages directory. I have noticed similar things 
happening to other people because of the irc traffic in #gentoo
