There are some excellent programmes out there to allow you web access to your mail. If for instance you place your mail on one good machine then even piddly P75's can handle what is required to get web mail working. This would also allow you to manage things from one server , would allow roaming log ons and would allow a standard ( Microsoft paid for) installation of Win98SE with Word, Excel, Powerpoint etc for the students to use. The stock standard install can be ghosted to an image for ease of remaking the system and then the files stored on a single server as well.
Getting stuff out of exchange is no where near impossible as I indicated in a previous post and web serving your mail would resolve many problems many schools are having. I know this is a simplification of the problem but there are excellent solutions out there which would work well for schools. Some products. http://www.emumail.com PHPOST TWIG. - It's PHP based and is basically a web-based IMAP client Squirrelmail (webmail) ? Possibly?
