It doesn't need 2 cards to stuff up either! Mine is a Via 82c686 mobo mounted AC97 device, with a mature kernel driver, but artsd creates a few problems on my machine...if I use alsa as the artsd output, I get no sound with OSS apps (mostly games), but if I use OSS or thread OSS I get spurious crashes killing SDL apps, XMMS, games, and many other softwares that simply make a noise. Always its because artsd hogs /dev/dsp to itself, even though multi-thread mode is supposed to allow sharing of that device...
