2 gig limit (real newbie question...)

hiya,
It seems that I have a 2 gig limit on my file sizes... I saw somewhere that 
other people don't have this issue and was wondering what it was connected 
to. I am running Mandrake 9.1. I have a few partitions and was trying to save 
to a FAT32 partition. (I don'[t have enough space on my native Linux 
partition to be trying it... which has ext3). Is FAT32 the issue? Or is it 
something to do with something else?
