 edit /usr/src/linux-kernel_version/Makefile.

line 4, EXTRAVERSION should not have the word custom.


Oh, and DO not do any kernel build instructions - 
 make modules ,dep etc.

  --oopes not quite, you might need to do a  make mrproper in the kernel 
source.
