imho you will have to explicitly make a partition available for windows
at the start of the disk. To do this you will have to use parted on a rescue
disk ( there is a bootable floppy available for the purpose ) to move
Linux out the way, edit /etc/{lilo.conf,fstab} and then run lilo again so
that the boot process knows about linux in its newly renamed partition.

Then you need to create and type the partition for the FAT windows
file system.

The whole process is error prone and fraught with gotchas. Take _great_ care.
It would be a much easier solution to install another disk to put windows on.

Indeed, but only if the end results are as good as the windows system gives.
The current words from the 'Net seem to imply that both the current SANE and the
drivers from EPSON support the 1260 scanner. Otherwise I echo Nick's sentiments.

I feel that I could make time to get this all going for you. Please contact me
off list to make a time.
