don't get me wrong, I'm a linux devotee but I'd wager a dollar or two that it's something simple you haven't done in windose to get it running in there. What codecs do you have installed. What codec was the avi encoded with? What codec does your media player default to when you try and view (I had some probs with viewing xvids with bsplayer, a fine player if ever there was one, and all that needed to be changed was the default decoding codec)? M$ might be fascist pigs but the not-so-legit dvd-ripping community is HEAPS bigger in 'dose than in Linux, and if you can watch something in linux then sure as ... you can watch it in 'dose.

ps. I wouldn't bother with mplayer in 'dose, bsplayer is fairly magnificent, unless you just can't stand guis or non-open source apps...(not sure that it's not anyway...)

The other alternative is to install an appropriate media player on the 'doze
partition. MPlayer claims to installable using cygwin.
