As far as I can figure out UTP is transformer isolated on the cards. Well at 
least the data sheets that I looked at a while ago said so (when I was 
looking at developing a Micro-controller based web server for a 
competition)
There is no problems with grounds, different phases etc when things are  
isolated.... which was one of the fall downs of the old coax system.

Im not sure what the MAX Isolation voltage is though... would have to look 
up a data sheet first (If I can find it).

If you are concerned about electrical problems you could always use a 
Fibre-Optic Link ;-)
