Hi Mike

I'm pretty new to the game myself, and have found either Redhat (9 is latest
ver) or Mandrake (9.something!!) pretty easy to use, though others on this
list may have other ideas.

First, I'd recommend trying Knoppix to make sure your hardware is happy.
Knoppix is a linux distro which runs entirely off one CD. Put it in, reboot
with your CD drive as startup drive, and hey, linux...

Then you can download some linux distros from ftp.tranzpeer.net which is a
NZ site (useful if you're on jetstream and want to make the most of your
national traffic).

If you're on dialup, then you might get bored waiting for 3 CD's full at
650-700Mb to download. I've visited Paul at the e-Cafe in the arts centre
several times for linux CDs. You can take in your own media and he will
write it cheap, or he can supply for more...

Best of luck
Steve
