Thanks for the feedback (both on and offlist)

I was a little unclear with my original post, all of the desktops are
running and will continue to be running Windows for the next wee while.
The company has a key application that doesnt run on linux under wine.
Thankfully, the server component of that app runs well under wine
without any hassles, and is thankfully supported (limitedly) by the
developers

To those who suggested removing outlook, thats unlikely to happen for
various reasons that I wont go into, but the machines are well patched,
and the staff trained on things such as Windows Update and dodgy
attachments. Mozilla mail is in use by some staff, and there are virus
scanners on every desktop as well as the linux server.

Ximan's proprietary plugin isnt of any use as linux isnt on the
desktops. I'm looking at something that replaces the _server_ component
of exchange, while still letting Outlook, Outlook Express, and if we get
linux desktops in there eventually Ximian Connector talk to it.
