The damage done apparently wrecks the CD-Drives. Updating the Firmware does not fix the problem. This applies not just to installing from CD but to install using any method on a system with an LG Drive. At the moment only LG-CD Drives appear to be affected, It apparently does not affect LG DVD or CDRW drives. Mandrake's Cooker list seems to have determined the cause of the problem being CDRW Packet writing support which was added to the Mandrake Kernel recently. http://marc.theaimsgroup.com/?l=mandrake-cooker&r=1&b=200309&w=2 See ^ for more info.
