Hi-ho, Our computer room aircon at work is set to 20... But I've seen computer and equipment rooms set as cool as 16, and as warm as 24.
If the aircon goes out things start to shutdown due to over-temp after around 20 minutes. It's a small room, with 14 machines in it, plus some comms gear and the PABX. A couple of the servers are serious iron, and could cook a whole chicken by themselves without the aircon I suspect... I've always thought that as long as your aircon can keep the temp relatively stable, and the gear itself can ship enough air into and out of the chassis/case/frame/rack to take advantage of that stable air mass, it's all good.
