What significant news could be possible with the gtran card? It's a
drop in and go product...

Well it must be me then!

kppp sees it & diagnoses ok (tho I notice something has blanked out the AT registers since CLUG Thurs - the Korean programmers' names are now gone). But press Connect & it hangs on ATZ / "initialising modem" - no can do. Same lack of response apparent in Minicom.

Debian 3.0 install via Knoppix 3.2 on a Compaq P4 laptop (Conexant modem next task).

The main thought I had on possible mistakes was not doing the install with the GTran in place - assuming PCMCIA would deal effectively with that later. It seems to have tho.

I started in on 2.2 drivers but have stopped short of recompiling the kernel.

Mystery ongoing - tips welcome

The bandwidth is fairly good for the coverage you get (I get between 5
and 8KB/s) latency can be a pain (up to 200ms to stuff on the
Telecom/Xtra network) and the data charges are not good for
casual/personal use...

Tax-deductible for a business, at least..!

In my experience they work under RH7.3 and 9, and I imagine any other
current distro.. hotplug recognises it as a serial device, and sets it
up as ttyS3, then treat it as a standard modem..

In other words ATZ + init string + dial + login ..?

Card is fine under MSTelecom

Cheers, Chris H.

Thanks for your reply Chris

Regards

Rik
