I started in on 2.2 drivers but have stopped short of recompiling the kernel.
2.2 as in a 2.2 series kernel? I suspect you'll need 2.4.x. Read on...
Confirmed - 2.4.x needs no extra drivers: http://www.linux.net.nz/lists/NZLUG/2002/12/0544.html
Correct. Have had most luck tweaking kppp. Initialisation doesn't seem to work, so I emptied those 2 strings (after trialling numerous variants) to skip it thru to "Dialling.." & just *once* got a "Logging onto network" message briefly b4 it died & tripped back to standard "Initialising... please wait" stall / response. kppp Terminal mode won't show any command typing input or response.Under 2.4 based kernels, with recent versions of the PCMCIA-cs, the card will be recognised and assigned a serial port, it is usually assigned to /dev/ttyS3. But please check the log to confirm the port.
Configure pppd to talk to the port (/dev/ttyS3) at 57600bps.# pppd /dev/ttyS3 57600
then ran it, could spot (& kill) the PID, but didn't know what else to do next (couldn't browse or ping www e.g.) ?.. still learning = "intermediate" grade skills here!
Minicom initialises but offers little funtionality. No response to ATZ or Dial etc.
You may also need to specify an AT&C0 within the chat script. This is only needed for cards running earlier versions of firmware. If your card has older firmware the connection may be dropped when the card goes dormant. Cards with phone numbers higher than 027 410 7000 will be running the new firmware. Cards prior to this may not be.
** Could well be the problem: 027 410 6*** held. ** Will take it up with Telecom: 'as per advertising, Linux capable..' & see how I get on :^?
Within the pppd options (/etc/ppp/options or appropriate) put default-asyncmap on a new line.
did this, below the "asyncmap 0" setting already there. Should that remain?
...The default-asyncmap option changes the use of control characters. Without it the link will come up, but data will not flow correctly. THIS STEP IS VERY IMPORTANT.
Also done, but not regularly getting thru to LogonThe authentication scheme used is PAP, so enter the following username & details into the pap-secrets file.
I wish!Username: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Password: telecom
The phone number to dial for CDMA Data is #777.
Other than that, they just go. : )
Cheers
