At my workplace we are currently evaluating Gentoo and Debian as alternatives to using Redhat9 on our servers. I rather like both distributions for their powerful package management features.
Our servers typically run services like samba, cvs, apache 2, tomcat, mysql, interbase, with one also running bind, qmail and freeswan. Without starting a flame war on distros, could I please have some feedback on maintenance and stability issues from people actually running servers with gentoo or debian. Or suggestions on other distributions to evaluate to replace Redhat with. Thanks, - Peter
