There a particularly interesting article on the subject at:- http://lwn.net/Articles/59138/ It's definitely worth a read. The phrase to remember wrt Gentoo is:- 'It just works'. The web forums and the irc channel at #gentoo on irc.freenode.net have decent signal:noise ratios. Both are genuinely helpful. Just do it, with 4,700 packages available you won't look back, promise. Two caveats:- 1) No good on old, slow computers unless you can build the packages on another faster machine. Don't even think about anything less than a 500MHz machine. 2) If you are a 'must be up to date' kind of person, you need a decent Internet connection. I find 256k-bits to be 'decent'. -- Sincerely etc. Christopher Sawtell NB. This PC runs Linux. If you find a virus apparently from me, it has forged the e-mail headers on someone else's machine. Please do not notify me when this occurs. Thanks.
