My name is Nic Scott. Long time lurker, first time poster ;)
Noticed the run of people looking for jobs on list lately (in the last month or so) and thought I'd get in on the action.
I am a uni student (second year Cosc) here in Christchurch looking for a work experience / internship job over summer (similar to the work experience the the engineering students do).
I have some experience with: Java, C, Cgi, Redhat, Gentoo and so on. The upside to that short list is I am young and willing to learn.
Why would you want a student intern, I hear you ask?
The student (me) gains valuable experience, and knowledge of the industry. And a insight to the real world of business. oh yeah and fists full of cash (maybe).
The employer gets keen highly motivated worker, at a competitive rate. Who will gladly do some of the more tedious tasks that tend to get put off (ie data capture, documentation that kind of thing). Allowing the employer to focus on core business activities.
So if you know any friends/family/contacts/strangers that might hire me I would be grateful if you could send me a mail.
Also I was thinking this could be the start of a lively and jaunty thread on who the bestest (superlative of best) and coolest local software/comp companies are (go on, sell yourselves!). (just for general interest, and also job hunting). Sure I have a few ideas of where to start, but there are bound to be places that I would never even think of.
