the latest debian release is 30r2 .. which I have most of the 7 disks - I recommend Knoppix for a quick debian desktop system 1. you get to see what you'll end up with without the pain of installation/partition hell etc. 2. installing takes less than an hour (typically less than 30mins on faster hardware) 3. once installed and configured you can apt-get whatever else you need - typically multimedia plugins etc .. to get windows(ick) media to play
