The latest GNUcash does have invoicing and tax (not necessarily GST, but
that can probably be modified in the XML somewhere), and it can be
hooked up to PostgreSQL for data warehousing and that could be used for
inventory control.

What I need to know is what other solutions are people in SME already
using, such as POS, SQL and accounting etc that can be used in New
Zealand without major modifications.

> Does anyone know about GNUcash as a small business accounting program.

It should be fine for the "accounting-only" part of the whole
accounting, i.e., for double-entry booking of payments made and
received, keeping them properly separated in whatever accounts
structure you want, and reporting.

It can also handle printing cheques, and depreciation of inventory.

What it probably not offers (I may not be up to date), and that is
normally a significant part of what you need for running a business,
are things like managing jobs, quotes, creating invoices from job
information, managing inventory, and all these other things you need
in a business, but not so much for just managing finances...

Kind regards,

Helmut Walle.
