LinuxCanada have a firebird database backed system called qasar. It is free for the basic modules and about $US50 for modules after that. I am using it and am so happy with it I am recommending it to customers. It can do multi currency, multisite, multi user, multi tax and because the data is open it hooks in to what ever else you want to use.
It also does bar code scanning and can be used with a palm pilot if you are using Linux. It runs on Linux and windows.
