Hard to say, I'll have to time it. I've only rebooted once since the
compile and it seemed to flash past pretty quick. i left the old kernel
and modules there too. 

System seems more responsive and multimedia files seem to play smoother.
Last night I had 6 (quite small [1]) mplayer windows open and playing
simultaneously. From the noises coming from the speakers, I'd say all of
them were outputting successfully to the sound system.

[1] I suspect they would have been 384x288, as thats what tcprobe
reports the frame size of the movie files as...
