Failed... no. Have a look at the difference this made in Australia - sweet

No. If anything this will losen those screws as they are now required to
provide a much beter wholesale solution to the market place for xdsl
technology.

The present wholesale product offering sux. It took the Aussies 3 years to
sort their crap out and they're still some way from being perfect but the
product offerings are marked beter than here...

A full range of providers with different plans with unlimited data[1] for
1500/256k connections.

[1] Unlimited data is often shaped after a capped amount has been used -
unlimited as in the user is not exposed to additional charges.

Yes it's enough to make a good difference.

However waiting for what the telephone companies are going to do won't be
enough by it self.

As a community we have to rise up and do some of the work.

On of the uni guys on this list recently commented that the uni wasn't in the
business of being an ISP... well I've got news!....

If we want to get past 128k connections with data caps then we're all going
to have to get into the business of being ISPs!!!

No not in this life time.

It's old technology that hasn't been making a return for them in Australia in
the way they'd hoped.

Having pumped 100 million into Christchurch I suspect they'll want a return
on that plant before they do much more...

Having said that, I have a little green box right outside my back door and
they wouldn't provide me with service when I called them 2 weeks back... as
of Monday I have 2 nice JetStreem 5000 accounts running here... pity about
the 128k - it seems a shame given the link speed is anywhere between 4 - 6
mbits per second!

Cheers DiG
