A happy and prosperous 2004 to all on the list! :-)

Web editors! One of my favourite topics :-) After a quick browse on
www.nvu.com, my feelings is: They should not claim that it will rival
Dreamweaver, but I will keep an eager eye on this project - it has potential.

A bit of background: I used to hand-code html until I discovered Dreamweaver.
With Dreamweaver, I always kept the code in the top 3rd of the window, and
while Dreamweaver's code is not perfect, its quite good for a WYSIWYG editor.
When I migrated to Linux, I had a close look at what's available and settled
for handcoding in Quanta. To make up for the loss of functionality, I started
to use CSS and SSI intensively. Guess I don't miss Dreamweaver much, nowadays.
I use Mozilla/Netscape Composer when I can't remember some tag or format or the
other and I do not have a proper reference handy, to do a sample in Composer
and then check the code :-) The thing I HATE about composer is that, if I write
my own code, it will overwrite my code with it's own (rather clunky) code. And
it is clueless about indenting. But it /does/ do a better job than OO :-)

Ignoring all the enthusiastic marketing-speak on the their website, the
questions I have in my mind about Nvu is: Will it understand SSI? And will it
mature beyond being a quick interface for novice and hasty webcoders, and
become a useful tool for serious webcoders?
