Thanks for all the input. I'll be going over to my friend's place in a 
few days - it's nice to go armed with some ideas and advice :-)  Any 
ideas why his box is so slow to read a floppy? On my box, mounting a 
floppy takes less than five 5 seconds.  Anyway, I will go and see how he 
goes about it.
