Having just upgraded my mother's computer to Win98se a couple of things
you could look at:
1 In IE look in Tools - Internet Options - connections. Make sure the
proxy server boxes is unchecked.
2 Check in the TCP/IP area for the network card what is configured for
DNS resolution. We use our IPCop box as our primary DNS server.
3 Finally check the hosts file in the Windows directory. It will need
to contain the IP details for the IPCop box.

Good luck

Subject: OT: Windows 98 laptop can't connect to internet through IPcop
box.

Hi All,

I recently set up an IPcop box for my Dad with a dialup connection. I
also
set it up as a DHCP server for his network. The first four PC's (all
running windows 98 se plugged into the network had no problems accessing
the
internet, but when we tried to plug my sister's laptop in (also win98se)
it
couldn't access the internet.

It obtained an IP address from the DHCP server and I can ping the ipcop
box.
I can also ping to www.google.com, so IP seems to be working at the
command-line level. However, I can't open the IPcop admin page or any
other page in the web browser. It is set up to obtain IP address
automatically and connecto to the internet through the LAN.

Has anyone come across a similar problem and found a solution, or have
any
suggestions for things to try?

Thanks

Luuk
