Hi all, has anybody seen this project. It is proposing some good things, a system based on a specific hardware platform, a GPL-like license, contests, television and radio commercials, .....
I haven't read all 4 files yet. He/Her is talking about the finishing of a lot of things in Linux that have not been done, and standardization of a number of things, eg: partitions.... He/Her is also putting up some money for it, and so are some others. It looks to be getting a lot of support. All to the end purpose of creating an Linux Home Desktop for everybody. First posted on Jan 05, 2004 (There are 4 post's so far) "Contributors to Linux are nothing short of dedicated when it comes to offering their coding efforts, but as many in this community are aware, much of that effort is wasted in the way of duplicated work, a great deal of which happen to only be the "sexy" parts of the code base. The problem is not so much in getting developer support, but in getting the masses organized and motivated to tackle the otherwise neglected aspects of the open source operating system. The following osViews editorial contributor has some interesting ideas to not only help Linux development but also the platform as a whole and even its promotion." ......... "I have a vision involving yearly contests that would allow the Linux and open source community to tap into the talents of these gurus, talented artists and other individuals, to build one platform-specific, complete home desktop system per year. The completed package would include a complete, GPL'd Linux distribution, and promotional kit, complete with television and radio commercials, print ads, posters and logos all of which could be freely used in any location or medium free of charge."
