Ah, yes. rtl8139 is the original version of 8139too written by Donald Becker. 8139too contains changes and fixes that Becker disagrees with. So, as it stands, there are at least three 8139 drivers floating around.



Apparently lsmod says rtl8139 is loaded already.

What does 'dmesg | grep 8139' return? It's possible that the particular RTL-8139 driver you're using does not support or recognise your NIC.

The version of rtl8139.c that I downloaded from his current web site is version 1.23a dated 8/24/2003

So maybe I should try the newer version that I have compiled. How do I configure Linux to load a different driver?

By the way, for the guy who talked about Edimax. These cards I knew were available, and I would have picked one, except that Dick Smith Electronics had their own branded one, which comes with a stack of drivers on a CD.
