Ah, yes. rtl8139 is the original version of 8139too written by Donald
Becker. 8139too contains changes and fixes that Becker disagrees with.
So, as it stands, there are at least three 8139 drivers floating around.

What does 'dmesg | grep 8139' return? It's possible that the particular
RTL-8139 driver you're using does not support or recognise your NIC.
