Ain't that the truth! One of the students I work with just upgraded to 512meg on a toshiba laptop (she had been running XP on 128meg with shared graphics and was trying to run big spreadsheets with lots of computations...sometimes she had to wait MINUTES for them to load!) and she scoured town to get it for $460 or something. Some places wanted as much as $650!!!Good luck getting bits for ANY laptop once the warrenty has run out .....brand names such as HP / Compaq etc are up there with that to ,sure with some of the *brandname* stuff the parts are available ...but reasonable and price cant be mentioned in the same sentance ....imho if the build quality is good (ie the unit itself is of a solid construction) unlike some of the latest dell etc stuff ...then why not ?.... At the end of the day it isnt the suppliers who are providing the warrenty parts , and the parts outside of warrenty are going to be hard to get regardless (wether physically or being able to afford them ;p ) . Cheers Dale.
Cheers
Anton
