I agree too, 

hard drives - generic (sometimes with a plastic surround)
cdrom/dvd - generic with a plastic surround
memory - sodimm - generic
extra cards, wireless, network etc tend to be mini-pci - try ebay.
screens - look generic to me, but i could stand correction.

Batteries and power supplies seem to be a pain, again ebay is worth a
look.
