The JavaScript that is run by Gecko is independent of the platform, so
you can write code for Gecko that will work on virtually any platform.  

Galeon does not manage plugins, rather it relies on Moz, so start
Mozilla, or Firebird/Firefox, and check to see if any strange extensions
have been installed.  Then check to see if there are any unusual plugins
installed.  (If you are wondering what the difference is, I think it's
that extensions are written in JavaScript while plugins are compiled
binaries.)

I doubt that anything has been installed without your permission, but
that does not explain the strange behaviour, sorry.
