Back in the mists of time when I failed 1st pro electrical engineering I
wrote a Fortran program as part of Applied Maths in the Intermediate year,
and in first pro nothing to do with computers.  In Electronics we had to
learn about vacuum tubes.

Incidentally I've learnt and tried to learn C.  Latin was easier.

At Canterbury, (unless they've changed it,)  All electronic engineering 
students do have to learn C, although it is optional after the first 
professional year.
