The simple fact is that when it comes to printers HP are some of the most 'Linux compatible' around, I agree that Inkjets are not cost effective for heavy use but you can easily purchase an HP Laser printer from around the $420 mark for a very basic printer, up to around $1000 for something a little more hard wearing.
