before taking this advice it might be worth considering the relative ratings on the vendor report cards: http://www.linuxprinting.org/vendors.html HP - excellent "The vendor has actively participated in driver development, provides a technical point of contact, and is actively supporting Free Software by providing Open Source and Free print drivers for their products. These vendors show a genuine interest in supporting Linux, and we highly recommend their products over all others. " Canon - average "The printers from these vendors work with Linux, but the vendor does not "oficially" support Linux, free software, or open source. They generally do not have an interest in seeing their customers use their printers with any drivers other than the ones they have themselves developed (and they usually only develop for Windows). They may also take an official stance against Linux. "
