So there is nothing to stop us using it for an installfest?
There has never been anything which disallowed you to use suse at an installfest (other than perhaps the content of your head ;) ).
Anyone is free to copy until their burners go up in smoke. Dito for putting it on servers for download. Has never been any different, and I've said that several times before on this list too.
If suse isn't on the uni ftp server, than that has absolutely nothing to do with suse.
What I mean is, are we allowed to burn off 30 copies sell them for $5/disk (to cover costs) and install them on all comers PCs?
That depends. It "requires written permission". As noone here ever had the idea to ask, we don't know. I have heard they're quite friendly to user groups and have even supplied free boxes(!) in the past (though they may have been one version back and I doubt they'll ship to NZ). In practice, I am also dead certain that they couldn't give a damn about anything non-commercial, i.e. user groups charging five bucks. One would hope they have better things to do (and I haven't heard of a case where suse actually got into some action, no doubt /.&Co would have been frothing if that had happened). Plus, there are many ways around that - sell blanks, then copy. You'll need the updates anyway - ok, the update CD is five bucks, the distro CD is free (and it's 3-7 CDs anyway, or 1-2 DVDs). Use your imagination but stop whinging (and it's a non-issue soon anyway).
Personally I supply copies of any suse version (and I won't be out of pocket). (And it's an excellent distro, but that's a different topic, and the 64bit version is dirt cheap.)
There may be problems with other SuSE developed software.
FUD + BS. There are many good pieces of GPL software by @suse.com authors on the distro, and if other distros didn't pick them up because of stubborn political blindness then that's for their bad.
Is anyone able to please consider running a Suse demo for a CLUG meeting?
Yep, no problem (other than perhaps the date).
Volker
