> Are there any public suse mirrors?

Heaps listed on suse.com, but I know of none in NZ. As it's not the
most of my traffic and I'm only using a fraction of my quota, I don't
really mind. There are several mirrors which even have rsync servers -
double neat!!

> If people are free to put it on mirrors why does no one stick up the ISO's?

Dunno. It requires someone who a) has the infrastructure, b) the
motivation to put in the effort. Places like planetmirror.com can't do
it because they're pay-services as well as free.

Suse privided isos until some years ago but then stopped. The live
evals are on the mirrors, the whole distro is too but not as ISO, as
ftp install instead.

I don't know, but you can install the whole distro as is in the box from
the ftp server I believe. The ftp version is slightly different in the
way of install, there were some reasons for this which I thought were
reasonable but I can't remember what they were.

Agreed, totally pointless if you can copy them from someone else's box ;)

And as Nick pointed out, 8GB of iso - ouch!

I can see a few options: make your own if you like to fiddle, copy from
someone else, find a few mates and share the cost for a box, or install
via ftp. Not managing one of them is, uhhm, whatever.

Many years ago the suse media also contained samples of
commercial programs which were technically not supposed to be
redistributed. Also when the Americans were up themselves about (dirty
word) encryption it wouldn't have been legal to put the international
suse version on a US server. All this has been a non-issue for some
years.

Not before 14 Apr or after 7 May, hard limits, sorry (late Jun ok
again). The 9.1 I would expect to be on the shelves by early May,
otherwise I could only demo 8.2 as I never installed 9.0 (no time). The
8.2 would be 12 months out of date.
